Newbuilding Excellence
World-class vessel construction engineered for performance, safety, and operational longevity
World-Class Vessel Construction
Oman Shipyard is a premier builder of high-performance marine vessels, delivering newbuild projects to clients across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. With over four decades of shipbuilding heritage and three purpose-built fabrication yards in Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, our newbuilding division combines advanced naval architecture with precision manufacturing to produce vessels that exceed international standards.
Every vessel is built to the exacting requirements of leading classification societies — Lloyd's Register (LR), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), and Det Norske Veritas (DNV). We utilise top-grade shipbuilding steel (AH36, DH36, EH36) and marine-grade aluminium alloys, processed through our in-house CNC plasma and laser cutting lines, automated panel welding stations, and robotic welding cells.
Our integrated project management methodology ensures that every newbuild progresses seamlessly from initial design concept through keel laying, block assembly, outfitting, commissioning, sea trials, and final delivery — on time, on budget, and to the highest quality benchmarks.
Our Vessel Portfolio
We have successfully delivered hundreds of vessels ranging from 15 to 120 metres in length. Our portfolio spans military, commercial, and offshore sectors:
- Harbour & Escort Tugs: High-bollard-pull ASD tugs (up to 80+ tonnes BP), conventional tugs, and compact harbour craft with advanced fire-fighting (FiFi 1/2) and oil recovery capabilities.
- Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs): Platform supply vessels (PSVs), anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS), crew/utility boats, and fast intervention craft designed for harsh offshore environments.
- Dredgers & Workboats: Trailing suction hopper dredgers, cutter suction dredgers, multicat utility vessels, and survey/hydrographic craft engineered for marine construction and port maintenance.
- Barges & Pontoons: Flat-top cargo barges, tank barges, crane barges, jack-up barges, and modular pontoon systems for heavy-lift and marine logistics operations.
- Specialised Craft: Pilot boats, patrol vessels, landing craft, research vessels, and custom naval/military platforms built to flag state and NATO standards.
Engineering & Design Excellence
Our in-house Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering division employs over 60 qualified engineers utilising industry-leading software including NAPA, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, AVEVA Marine, and Maxsurf for hull form optimisation, structural finite element analysis (FEA), stability calculations, and 3D modelling.
From concept design through detailed production drawings, our engineering team collaborates closely with classification society surveyors to ensure every design meets or exceeds statutory and class requirements. We also offer value-engineering services to help owners optimise vessel performance, fuel efficiency, and lifecycle costs.
Our dedicated Research & Development cell continuously evaluates emerging technologies — including hybrid propulsion systems, LNG-ready fuel systems, and advanced hull coatings — to keep our newbuild offerings at the forefront of maritime innovation.
Quality Assurance & Sea Trials
Quality is embedded at every stage of our newbuilding process. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system mandates rigorous inspection and testing protocols — from incoming material certification and weld procedure qualifications (WPS/PQR) through non-destructive testing (NDT), hydrostatic testing, and final system commissioning.
Every vessel undergoes comprehensive harbour acceptance trials (HAT) and sea acceptance trials (SAT) conducted in the presence of the owner's representatives and classification society surveyors. We test propulsion performance, manoeuvring characteristics, navigation systems, safety equipment, and all auxiliary systems to ensure full contractual compliance before handover.
