Our In-House Technical Experts

Naval architects, class-certified welders, and precision mechanical engineers driving marine excellence

Key Competencies Retained In-House

At Oman Shipyard, we believe that maintaining complete control over engineering quality requires keeping core technical disciplines directly on our payroll. Unlike yards that rely heavily on subcontracted labor, we employ our own specialized divisions of naval architects, structural fabricators, marine fitters, propulsion technicians, electrical engineers, and certified commercial divers.

Having these key competencies in-house allows us to immediately mobilize resources for emergency repairs, accelerate newbuilding design reviews, and maintain consistent quality control. Our clients benefit from direct communication with the engineers and project managers who are personally responsible for their vessels.

We invest heavily in continuous training at manufacturer academies, safety certifications, and advanced engineering degrees to ensure our team remains at the cutting edge of global maritime technology.

Our Specialized Technical Divisions

Our organizational structure is divided into dedicated centers of engineering excellence, each playing a vital role in our shipyard operations:

  • Naval Architecture & CAD Design: Utilising AVEVA Marine, AutoCAD, and Maxsurf to create class-approved plans, perform stability calculations, design hull expansions, and execute 3D laser scans of machinery spaces.
  • Propulsion & Shaft Specialists: Dedicated mechanics specializing in the alignment, machining, and overhaul of tailshafts, steerable thrusters (ASD), controllable pitch propellers (CPP), and rudder steering systems.
  • Welding & Steel Fabrication: Class-certified welders (Lloyd's Register, ABS, DNV) qualified in 3G, 4G, and 6G positions for marine-grade steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, and aluminium piping.
  • Electrical & Control Diagnostics: Engineers trained in the repair of generator control panels, automated switchboards, alarm systems, sensor calibrations, and marine electronic diagnostics.
  • Subsea Diving Squads: Commercial divers approved by major class societies to conduct In-Water Surveys (IWS), non-destructive testing (NDT), underwater wet welding, and propeller polishing.

Our Project Management Office (PMO)

To ensure that drydockings and newbuilds are executed seamlessly, every project is assigned a dedicated Project Manager from our PMO. Our PMs are qualified marine engineers or naval architects with extensive field experience. They act as the single point of contact for the shipowner, managing scheduling, safety compliance, material logistics, and class certifications.

Our PMO utilizes advanced planning software (Microsoft Project, Primavera P6) to track progress in real-time, providing owners with daily updates, itemized cost reports, and high-resolution progress photos. This rigorous planning ensures that we consistently deliver vessels back to their trading schedules on time.
