Drydocking & Conversions

Modern Syncrolift facilities and dry berths for comprehensive class docking and refit projects

World-Class Docking & Refit Infrastructure

Oman Shipyard's docking facilities in Dubai and Sharjah provide shipowners with flexible, modern docking platforms capable of accommodating diverse vessel profiles, including offshore support vessels (OSVs), harbor and ocean-going tugs, commercial barges, naval patrol craft, and specialized utility vessels. Our main Sharjah facility features a high-capacity Syncrolift docking system capable of lifting vessels up to 5,000 tonnes, transferring them via a computerized rail network to multiple dry work berths.

Our drydocking operations are managed by a dedicated team of docking masters, safety officers, and trade-specific superintendents who plan every lift with engineering-backed stability calculations. Our yards operate 24/7, providing high-volume resources for blasting, coating, steel fabrication, and mechanical fitting to guarantee that vessels return to service within tight scheduled windows.

We work in close partnership with all major IACS classification societies. Surveyors are permanently based on-site or close by, allowing for seamless intermediate and special survey inspections, thickness gauging, hydrostatic testing, and class endorsement.

Drydock Refit & Modification Capabilities

Our drydocking services are backed by fully equipped workshops capable of executing complex repairs and modifications:

  • Hull Blasting & Coating: High-pressure water blasting (up to 2,500 bar) and grit blasting followed by airless spray application of premium marine coatings, including silicone fouling release systems, under strict environmental controls.
  • Mechanical & Propulsion Repairs: Tailshaft withdrawals, shaft straightness checks, propeller blade welding, pitch calibration, rudder clearances, seal replacements (Simplex/Cedervall), and bow thruster overhauls.
  • Structural Steel Renewal: In-house fabrication and installation of class-certified double-bottom tanks, shell plating, bulwarks, and deck structures using Lloyd's Register approved welding procedures.
  • Piping Systems: Fabrication and replacement of ballast, fire main, bilge, cooling water, and cargo piping in carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel (CuNi 90/10).
  • Green Technology Retrofits: Engineering, installation, and commissioning of Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS) and Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS / Scrubbers).
